rootexAI
ROOTEX CLI 0.3.4 / YOUR WORKSPACE. YOUR TERMINAL.

Meet Rootex CLI.
Build where you are.

An installable coding agent for Windows, Linux, macOS and Android Termux. Read files, make edits, run commands, and stay in control.

One package. Every platform.

Install Node.js 20 or newer, then install Rootex from this website. The package includes the commands rootex and rootexai.

npm install --global https://rootexai.com/downloads/rootex-cli-0.3.4.tgz
Download package ↓
The npm registry name is not published yet. Use the website tarball URL or install the downloaded file with npm install -g ./rootex-cli-0.3.4.tgz.

Windows PowerShell

For Restricted execution policy, use the Windows installer. It keeps npm’s CMD launchers so rootex works in PowerShell without changing your user execution policy.

Download Windows installer
powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\install-rootex.ps1

For direct npm installs, rootex.cmd also works if PowerShell blocks npm-generated PS1 launchers.

Open any project directory

cd your-project
rootex

On first launch, enter your rootexai API key and choose “Ask before changes” or “Full workspace access”. The agent uses that exact directory.

Linux / macOS / Termux installer

A checksum-verified shell installer is also available. Node.js 20+, npm and curl are required.

Download shell installer
sh ./install-rootex.sh https://rootexai.com

Android / Termux

pkg update
pkg install nodejs-lts curl
npm install -g https://rootexai.com/downloads/rootex-cli-0.3.4.tgz
rootex

New installs connect to https://rootexai.com/v1. If you previously used the local version, run rootex --gateway https://rootexai.com/v1 once, then sign in with a key from this website.

From first plan to verified change.

Project and symbol search, live responses, saved sessions, conflict-aware undo, automatic checks, read-only specialists, skills and external MCP tools are built in.

A little help, right in the prompt.

Type /p, choose with ↑ / ↓ and press Enter. Numeric inputs accept blank for admin defaults. Model and reasoning pickers include a Default option.

Files, images, and local OCR.

Text/code and DOCX are read locally. Vision models receive inline images through your rootexAI gateway. Text-only models receive local OCR text instead. English/Bengali OCR language files are included; images are not sent to an OCR service.

PDF extraction and scanned-PDF OCR require Poppler (pdftotext and pdftoppm). Use /doctor for setup. Scanned PDF fallback reads the first five pages.

Ctrl+V image support depends on your terminal. Use /paste if the terminal intercepts the shortcut. Android terminals commonly paste text only: save/share the image, grant storage access and use /attach /path/to/image.png.

Your controls stay with you.

System instructions are enforced on the server. Model ranges, reasoning choices and defaults are configured in Model studio. Requests use only your rootexAI gateway; provider credentials are never included in the CLI.

Full access permits automatic file changes. Commands follow a separate sandbox, risk and external-access policy. Commands run with your OS account’s permissions; workspace path checks are not an OS sandbox. In Ask mode, each edit and command requires approval. Recognized high-risk commands need extra approval even in Full access. Sessions and source snapshots save locally in your private user profile; undo covers bounded workspace source changes, not external services or arbitrary system effects.
